Tours

Our family has been growing fruits and vegetables for over 60 years and we are happy to share our heritage with you. Students are now 3-4 generations removed from agriculture and we have to give effort to educate them about their food and where/how it is grown. Teaching our youth about local agriculture is very important to the future of America. We provide educational tours, taught by Leanne and Paul Fuhrmann and their children, from September to November. We do not schedule tours on Monday and Tuesday due to our farmers markets still occurring.

Early Elementary Tours K-3rd & Homeschool Groups

Tour Details: Your visit will include a guided tour of our packing house facilities including our storage area and retail area.  We will discuss important facts about apples and their production. Your group can also walk up the hill into the orchard to see how the apples and vegetables grow as a self-guided tour. Please note that some of the equipment in the packing house is too high for most small children to see. Please remember that it can be very loud when the packing line machinery is operating.

Cost: $4.00 per person (No charge for teachers, teacher aides, parents & bus drivers) Minimum of $50 per group.

This includes the tour of the packing house, self-guided tour of orchard, apple, small pumpkin, and corn maze.  We also are providing you with the option to add on a small cup of apple cider slushie and/or bag of caramel corn for $1 each.  Please let us know a week before your tour if your group will be adding the slushies or caramel popcorn.  As always students/parents/teachers are allowed to purchase these items separately at the orchard.

Length of Visit: 60-90 minutes

Groups: Your school will be asked to split into 3 groups which will rotate throughout the time frame. (Corn maze, orchard self-guided walking tour, packing house tour and educational talk)

Scheduling Requirements: While arrangements can be made at any time, we get the most calls during August and early September for scheduling. It is best to schedule via facebook message to Fuhrmann Orchards or by email: fuhrmannorchards@gmail.com. We do not have tours Monday and Tuesday until November. Please tell us what time your group will be arriving and necessary departing times and provide us with a contact person, email and phone number as well as the number of students participating. We would like it if you arrived no earlier than 10am.

Also the Porter Township Park is located in Wheelersburg about 10 minutes from the orchard and is a great location to take the students for a picnic lunch after the tour.

Weather Information: Usually tour groups are expected regardless of weather and we do our best to make this as fun as possible. All students should wear clothes and shoes able to get dirty, and a coat for when it gets colder in Sept/Oct. Please do not cancel your tour before you have talked with us.
